Profile Zulkieflimansyah, PhD

Known to his friends as Bang Zul, Zulkieflimansyah was born in Sumbawa Besar, May 18th, 1972. He earned his bachelor degree in Economics in 1995 from the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, where he teaches at the Graduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programs up to now. He accomplished his postgraduate programme at Strathclyde Business School, University of Strathclyde in United Kingdom (UK). In 1997, he completed his MSc degree in International Marketing from Department of Marketing of the same university. In 1998, he enrolled in another master program, focusing in industrialization, trade and economic policy in the Department of Economics and continued to doctoral program in the same department in 2001.

He has made several achievements since he was younger. Many achievements were performed in Sumbawa Besar, his hometown. He represented Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) province in Indonesia-Australia student exchange program for almost a year in 1989. During his stay in Australia, Bang Zul went to Darwin High School in Darwin and Sadadeen Secondary College in Alice Springs. Living with an Australian family who ran the Outback Freight Business Service enabled him to know about Australia deeply down to the rural areas and well interact with the amazing native Aborigine tribe.

When studying at University of Indonesia, he demonstrated excellent performance. University of Indonesia�s Performing Student in logic and National Student Writing Contest in Economics champion were awarded in 1994. He also won English Writing Contest held by Japan Airlines (JAL) of University of Indonesia. JAL then sponsored him to study Comparative Asian Industrial System at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.

Bang Zul did not only struggle with books in campus, he was also involved in various student activities. During the period of 1994-1995 he was trusted by the students of University of Indonesia as President of Student Government at university level which is currently known as Student Executive Board (BEM UI).

Studying is a need to increase capacity. This is one of his principles of life. Besides the degree programs he enrolled to in Glasgow, Bang Zul also took several intermediate educations at Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (US), Institute for New Technology, Maastricht (The Netherlands), Science and Policy Research Unit at University of Manchester (UK), and University of Dundee (Scotland).

Bang Zul takes further political step as Member of Parliament from Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) representing the election region of Banten 2 (Tangerang Regency and Tangerang City). The Commission 7 of the House of Representatives in which he presently belongs deals with the issues of energy and mineral resources, research and technology and environment as well. Not only politically active, bang Zul also excels in academics. Winning several National Research Grants, writing in scientific journals in the country and abroad and representing Indonesia in International Researches are some examples of his academic achievements. It is no surprise if Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) granted him the title of Indonesia�s Best Young Scientist in Economics and Management in 2003.
